Associate in Engineering. To learn more about this program visit our on line catalog.
Students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program acquire the skills required of mechanical engineering technicians, who perform a wide range of functions such as design, testing, manufacturing, installation, maintenance, distribution, and documentation of mechanical systems and devices.
Mechanical engineering technicians provide an indispensable link between professional engineers involved with research, design, and development, and the skilled craftspeople who manufacture and assemble the high technology devices that enable people, companies, and nations to function every day.
The program is accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Specific areas of study include:
- Communication at all levels in an industrial environment;
- Production of designs and drawings for prototyping and manufacturing;
- Analysis of forces, stresses, strains, and torques in mechanical systems;
- Selection of materials and processes for parts and assemblies;
- Testing and analysis of finished assemblies for proper design and function;
- Calculation of system energy and power requirements;
- Heat transfer and thermodynamics in mechanical systems; and
- Electronic control and data acquisition applications.
Graduates of the program typically pursue employment opportunities as mechanical engineering technicians with companies in such fields as:
- Plastics Manufacturing;
- Energy Technology;
- Semiconductor Manufacturing;
- Aerospace Engineering;
- General Production and Manufacturing.
This program is offered as a two-year, full-time program. With a minimum of an extra year's work, program majors may pursue a dual degree with either Electrical Engineering Technology or Automotive Technology. Contact the Director of Admissions for details on these opportunities.
The minimum number of credits required for a degree is 69.
This program is offered at Vermont Tech’s main campus in Randolph Center.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology Program has created a site that gives further information on the program and related coursework.
