Student Profiles
Allow us to introduce: Iris Davis
Class of 2011
Iris is from Moretown, VT where she grew up on a dairy farm. Knowing that farming wasn't what she wanted to do in life she took the opportunity to be a member of the VAST Class of 2007 where she was able to explore a major in college during her senior year of high school while still participating in activities at her sending high school. She had always had an interest in design, but had thought that her interest was truly in designing ships, Vermont Tech not offering Marine Design she chose the next best thing with Architecture and Building Technology.
After spending one year at Vermont Tech she realized she might not have her sea legs yet and was better on land, prompting her to make the decision to stay a second year to receive her Associates Degree, which she received in May of 2008. Two years was not enough for Iris and she is excited to come back in the fall of 2008 to pursue her Bachelors Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. "Vermont Tech is such a great community. Your professors are always there to support you and give you whatever help you may need. It's great because it's so small they really get to know you as a person as well as a student. After spending my first year here I knew I couldn't go anywhere else. Vermont Tech is the place for me."
She has decided to also pursue a Bachelors Degree in Sustainable Design and Technology in the Green Buildings Track because she feels that the combination of both majors would give her a huge step up in the world. After graduation she plans on working for an Architecture firm as both an Architect/Engineer and a LEED certifier. She says that she also might continue on to receive her Masters of Architecture someday.
